Industry Challenges
Common storage and logistics challenges we solve in this sector.
- High volumes of small and heavy components
- Just-in-time delivery pressure
- Manual handling injury risks
- Parts traceability across production lines
- Integration with existing conveyor and ERP systems
- 24/7 production line supply requirements
These pressures rarely arrive one at a time. A model changeover, a supplier delay and a run of shift cover can land in the same week, and it is the stores that absorb all three. Automating that part of the operation gives you one fixed point while everything else is moving.
Our Solutions
Compact Lift
Automated vertical storage for thousands of parts with barcode integration and fast retrieval times. Pick-to-light guides the operator to the right tray position, which keeps a new starter as accurate as an experienced one.

Palomat
Automated pallet dispensers that eliminate manual handling and integrate with conveyor lines. They stack and dispense empty pallets on their own, so nobody on the dispatch team is lifting them by hand.

Service & Maintenance
24/7 support and preventive maintenance contracts to keep production lines running. A contract covers the planned visits, the wear parts and the software updates, so small faults are caught early.

Automated Storage Built for Parts and Tooling
Automotive stores hold awkward stock, from small fasteners through to heavy castings. Compact Lift is ideal because it accommodates all of them within a single machine.
- Each load tray carries up to 1.5 tonnes using a rack-and-pinion Four Wheel Drive
- Trays are available up to 6.5 metres wide, allowing you to store long component sizes without splitting batches
- Uneven loads are handled with ease, as items do not need to be evenly distributed across the tray
- Compact Twin and Compact Double run two trays in one sequence, lifting picking speed and efficiency
The Compact Double carries double trays in every position, giving you greater storage capacity without increasing your floor area.
Automated Storage Built for Parts and Tooling
Most stores leave valuable building height unused. A vertical lift makes full use of that available space, and Randex reports floor savings of up to 90% against standard shelving and pallet racking. Instead of walking the aisles, employees retrieve parts at the access window, completing up to four times as many picks.
The value is real in this sector. One blue-chip automotive client gained 350 square metres of storage capacity inside a 17.3 square metre footprint using a Double Deep Compact Lift, which you can see alongside our other case studies. That result is about as space-efficient as it gets.
Line-Side Supply and Integration
Our automation integrates with all leading warehouse management systems, allowing parts to be booked in and out as they move through production. Traceability stays intact, which matters when batch numbers follow components throughout manufacturing.
A good example is a 24-7 production cell where a Compact Lift holds raw materials and tooling for a CNC Mazak machine working with an ABB robot. It provides two openings, one for manual loading and one that the robot reaches directly.
Nationwide Service
Randex works with companies throughout the UK, from SMEs to blue-chip manufacturers, on projects ranging from a single machine to more than twenty. The head office is in London, while our admin and warehousing facility is located in Livingston, Scotland. A recently opened operations office near Bolton, and service technicians based nationwide provides excellent national coverage.
Here is what a support contract for your automation covers:
- Platinum cover runs 24/7 with guaranteed on-site attendance within four hours
- Travel costs and wear parts are included in the contract price
- TeamViewer remote support diagnoses faults without waiting for a site visit
- Engineers are trained and certified by recognised accreditation bodies
Planned maintenance keeps performance steady and the drive reliable, which is essential when production lines cannot stop.
FAQs About Automated Storage
Here is what engineering and stores managers usually want to know before they specify.
Do you supply automated car parking or vehicle storage systems?
No. We supply automated storage for:
Parts
Components
Tooling
Consumables
Office filing systems for the records room
Automated car storage and automated vehicle storage usually mean robotic parking that stacks cars. That is different technology from a different type of supplier. We store what goes into vehicles, not the vehicles themselves.
Can we see a specification before we commit to anything?
Yes, and it costs nothing. We offer the Compact Configurator for free online, whatever the size of your business. You enter your building height along with your storage and picking needs. It then generates a CAD drawing and specification showing lift height, footprint and optimum capacity, which you can submit for a costed quote.
How disruptive is the installation to a running plant?
We plan the sequence around your shift pattern rather than the other way round, and the programme is built to suit the site. Our first Compact Lift went in at Glenmorangie in Livingston back in 2006, so we have had plenty of practice since.
Need a Storage Solution for Automotive & Manufacturing?
Tell us what you store and how often the line calls for it. We will design a system that helps
you maximise space and optimise retrieval, and you will get a fully costed proposal setting out the
benefits and return on your investment.
We also support retail back-office storage if you hold finished goods alongside parts.
